Kanazawa Shoko first picked up a brush at the age of five. She began her calligraphy career by studying under her mother, Yasuko, who ran a calligraphy school. She made her debut as a calligrapher at the age of 20, holding what she intended to be her first and last solo exhibition at the Ginza Gallery, and also performing calligraphy on the spot at the Imperial Hotel. The response was beyond what she or her mother could have imagined, and she continues to receive calligraphy requests from all over the country, including Todaiji Temple and Horyuji Temple. Over the course of approximately 15 years, she has visited more than 1,200 locations in Japan and overseas for exhibitions and lectures.
Shoko's calligraphy, which she describes as "filled with energy, happiness and emotion, and written with all my heart," has attracted so many people that many say it has brought them to tears.
This is the official catalogue of the exhibition, which is her culmination and a new step forward.
