This two-volume work provides an in-depth exploration of the traditional tulou architecture found in Fujian Province. Professor Keiichiro Mogi of Tokyo University of the Arts likens the tulou to “flying saucers fallen from the sky” or “mushrooms emerging from the earth.” UNESCO consultant Stevens Andrews has described them as a “one-of-a-kind, almost mythical architectural model found in mountainous regions.” These vernacular dwellings, akin to “living fossils,” remained hidden deep within the mountains and only gained scholarly recognition in recent times.
