Radiating an unparalleled presence in the history of advertising since 2000, this book offers a deep dive into the worldview of Mikiya Takimoto.
Photographer Mikiya Takimoto has worked across diverse fields, including advertising photography, commercial films, artistic creations, and cinema, continually refining his unique expressive style by crossing various genres. This book focuses on his client work, compiling 25 years of advertising projects from the start of his career in 1998 to 2023, marking his first-ever professional portfolio.
The book is divided into two sections: advertising photography and commercial films. The first section features approximately 120 varied works, including early projects like Tokyo City Keiba Twinkle Lady Award, the iconic Toshimaen Pool, main visuals for NHK historical dramas such as Ryomaden, Sanadamaru, and Seiten wo Tsuke, memorable Mr.Children album imagery for HOME and SUPERMARKET FANTASY, poster visuals for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s films Like Father, Like Son and Our Little Sister, the internationally acclaimed World Table Tennis, collaborative visuals with art directors for Laforet Harajuku, the grand-scale TOYOTA 5 Continents Drive series, and the 2023 Pocari Sweat campaign, among others.
The commercial film section includes around 70 works, such as the ongoing Sapporo Black Label Adult Elevator series since 2010, the beloved Daiwa House: Here, Together series, the cool yet humorous Sansan: Known Face, the legendary Kirin Lager Beer: Time Slip featuring YMO’s three members, the cinematic McDonald’s series, and the striking Suntory Tennensui from the pandemic era. Notably, Takimoto’s recent works, enriched by his experience shooting films with Kore-eda, are a must-see for their added depth.
Additionally, the book includes a special dialogue with Kenjiro Sano, a long-time friend and art director, titled “The Ideal Relationship Between Photography and Design.”
Curated personally by Takimoto, the selected works represent just 10% of his vast portfolio, yet still result in a substantial volume of approximately 600 pages.
In an era of rapid change, where advertisements flood devices and are oftenmillions of users to find answers in seconds.
