Among the famous "connoisseurs of business" of the Meiji and Taisho eras, Sumitomo Shunsui, the 15th head of the Sumitomo family, was highly regarded for his dignity. The Izumiya Hakukokan Museum is a collection of beautiful objects selected by Shunsui's aesthetic sense and discerning eye.
Sumitomo Shunsui, the 15th head of the Sumitomo family, was busy as the head of Sumitomo, but he also enjoyed the tea ceremony and Noh, and was devoted to literary pursuits while embracing a Western lifestyle. True to Sumitomo's roots in mining, Shunsui, who amassed one of the world's leading collections of ancient Chinese bronzeware, always sought to promote the development of Chinese culture, generously displaying his collection and supporting artists. This book introduces 99 carefully selected items from the "Sen'ya Hakukokan Collection," a collection of approximately 3,500 items related to the Sumitomo family, including two national treasures, 19 important cultural properties, and 60 important art objects, focusing on Shunsui, and introduces their appeal along with their origins.
