This volume showcases the works of the Japanese sculptor and stonemason Izumi Masatoshi, focusing on his stone sculptures exhibited in Sapporo in the year 2000. Izumi Masatoshi (1938–2021) was a contemporary artist who employed stone as his primary medium. His creations reflect a harmonious blend of traditional Japanese stone-carving techniques and modern sculptural concepts, emphasizing the natural beauty and cultural resonance of stone. Izumi was a long-time collaborator of the renowned sculptor Isamu Noguchi and continued to oversee the completion of Noguchi’s unfinished works and manage the Isamu Noguchi Foundation in Japan after Noguchi’s death.
