(Hans Wegner)
Hans Wegner, master of the Scandinavian modern chair, enjoys great popularity in Japan too for pieces such as the Y Chair and The Chair. Led by 160 important pieces of furniture from the author's internationally acclaimed collection, the book is composed of drawings and valuable archival photographs. Not to be missed are the commentaries, which systematically organise Wegner's vast body of work on the basis of many years of research, and some 500 illustrations. A keepsake volume of 412 pages in wide A4 format.
Hans Jørgensen Wegner
1914–2007. Born in Tønder, a town on the border between Denmark and Germany. As a designer and furniture maker, he created numerous masterpiece chairs with original designs grounded in deep insight into materials and in craftsmanship, and he remains highly acclaimed internationally to this day. In Japan, too, he is popular for the Y Chair, The Chair and others.
Noritsugu Oda
Chair researcher and professor emeritus at Tokai University. Born in Kochi Prefecture in 1946. While working in the advertising department of Takashimaya, he began collecting chairs. For more than half a century since, he has researched and collected modern furniture, especially 20th-century Scandinavian furniture, continuing his work on the basic principle of actually using them as everyday objects. In 1994 he moved to Hokkaido together with his collection. In 1997 he received the Danish Furniture Prize. In 2015, for having "continued to present the results of his research on Wegner to the world and contributed greatly to raising Wegner's present-day reputation", he received the first Hans Wegner Prize by unanimous decision of the jury.
