Threads of Beauty is a series in which Yuriko Takagi photographed people who wear ethnic dress "in everyday life." Seeking "people whose facial expressions and clothes exist as one," she continued photographing in 13 countries over 30 years.

This book is a careful selection from the more than 1,000 photographs taken so far, gathered into a single volume. Through this journey, Takagi finds the origins of clothing in the people she met. "For people, clothes are identity, wealth and joy." Even in the time from 1995, when she began her journey, to the present, globalisation has eroded the character of dress. Yet the bond between clothing and people that deeply captured her heart, the beauty reflected in the photographs, is also part of what sustains human life, and it possesses a supple strength.
