Shigeru Uchida PAPERMOON PM03

Designed by Shigeru Uchida, the Paper Moon PM03 is a washi-paper light that expresses traditional Japanese beauty through a soft, playful form.

Uchida worked across commercial and residential interiors, furniture, industrial design and regional development. His product designs were rooted in Japanese tradition while responding to the character of their time. His foldable tea rooms—Ju-an, So-an and Gyo-an—were also shown in touring exhibitions at European museums.

The Paper Moon series draws on the traditional Gifu lantern craft, using fine Mino washi and locally grown bamboo, shaped by skilled artisans. Its natural, gentle silhouette may suggest mochi, a bamboo shoot or a gourd, while the light filtered through the paper creates a warm atmosphere suited to a wide range of interiors.
