Architectural historian Naito Akira and illustrator Hoizumi Kazuo collaboratively reconstruct the metamorphosis of Edo (modern Tokyo). Volume I chronicles the Tokugawa shogunate's transformation of marshlands into a political nucleus, while Volume II decodes the hydraulic systems, fire-resistant urban fabric, and plebeian culture of a metropolis with a population over one million. Merging scholarly rigor with ukiyo-e aesthetics, this work breathes life into Edo's architectural genealogy.
