This book focuses on architecture and interior design, centred on Europe, from the late 19th to the early 20th century, exploring the aesthetics and cultural atmosphere of the fin de siècle. The photographer Keiichi Tahara vividly captures the architecture and decorative arts of this era, characterised by styles such as Art Nouveau and the Vienna Secession, in high-contrast black-and-white photographs. Flowing lines, richly ornamented details and the distinctive tension hanging in the spaces are superbly expressed. Commentary by the architectural historian Riichi Miyake clarifies the relationship with the social background and artistic thought of the time, carefully unravelling the stories of the era that the spaces tell.
