Across two volumes, this book introduces in detail the tulou, traditional buildings scattered across Fujian Province. Professor Keiichiro Mogi of Tokyo University of the Arts likened the tulou to "flying saucers fallen from the sky" and "mushrooms sprouting from the earth." Stephen Andrews, an adviser to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), praised them as "a mythical mountain architectural style unmatched anywhere in the world." These dwellings live on in the mountains like "living fossils" and were not widely recognised by scholars until modern times.
