The catalogue of the exhibition of the potter Hans Coper, which toured six venues across Japan from 2009 to 2011, including the Museum of Ceramic Art, Hyogo, the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park and the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu. Born in Chemnitz, Germany, Coper fled to Britain at 19, where his talent on the wheel was discovered in the studio of the potter Lucie Rie, and he went on to create sculptural works. It contains representative works from his early years to his last, including works conscious of architectural space and series inspired by ancient Cycladic sculpture. Works by Lucie Rie, with whom he was bound by lifelong friendship, are also included.
