Published in connection with the 1970 Osaka World Exposition (Expo '70), this book introduces the collection of the Japan Folk Crafts Museum in Komaba, Tokyo. Featuring folk crafts rooted in daily life, such as ceramics, textiles, woodwork and lacquerware, it conveys the mingei ideal of "the beauty of use." The works included consist of old folk crafts, contemporary works made with traditional techniques and new works by individual artists, showing the relationship between tradition and creation.
