Juan Gris was a Spanish painter and sculptor, one of the leading figures of the Cubist movement in the early 20th century. Gris was born in Madrid, Spain, and moved to Paris in 1906. There he met Picasso and Braque, with whom he developed his Cubist painting style. Gris's paintings are known for their abstraction of geometric shapes and masterful use of color. He often focused on themes of still life, musical instruments, and cafe scenes, and he also produced some works in collage form. His artistic style had a major influence on later art movements such as Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art.
