On the desk, stationery stands quietly. In the frame, the objects hold still in the instant just before falling, existing as if suspended in mid-air. The quality of "stationary" inherent to stationery stretches out a single pause (ma) — a frozen paradox born in the moment one holds one's breath, a fragment of time drawn out.
The stationery used in offices is often white, transparent and reflective — or slender and portable. These reticent objects dissolve the gaze as if practising "becoming invisible", and blur the focus of the lens. For them the table is both a temporary stage and an everyday home. As the camera draws closer, the flow of time quietly rises out of the ambiguity, and a performance of stillness begins.
As the first publication in collaboration with Surfacing Press, Stationary Stationery was published in September 2025. It was designed by the Singaporean designer duo gideon-jamie.
