The definitive collection personally selected by Japan’s master dyer

This volume presents approximately 90 representative works by Samiro Yunoki—one of Japan’s most celebrated textile artists—produced during his career as a “mingei” (folk craft) artist. Each piece is photographed at the Japan Folk Crafts Museum, a place considered sacred to the movement. The book also includes traditional folk craft items from the museum’s collection that profoundly influenced Yunoki’s artistic development.

The contents feature Yunoki’s own message “To All Who Open This Book,” an analytical essay by Ken Matsui titled “To Observe and to Reflect: The Dyeing Art of Samiro Yunoki,” notes from the editor, an overview of Yunoki’s stencil and dyeing techniques by Satoharu Nakagome, a detailed chronology, and a catalog of works.
