Seiho Shugacho (Seiho's Painting Studies) is a four-volume album edited by Kanbei Murakami and published in 1901 (Meiji 34). Bound in the traditional Japanese style, its third and fourth volumes contain finely made colour woodblock prints. Its style fuses traditional Japanese beauty with modern elements of the Meiji period. The Meiji period was a time when publishing culture flourished, and much traditional and modern art was printed and published. The works in this book, while influenced by the West, strongly retain the essence of Japanese beauty, making it a valuable resource for understanding the artistic changes of the time.
