This book is an exhibition catalogue distilling the finest of the art of Keisuke Serizawa, holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure). Centred on the valuable collection donated by the Asian crafts researcher Kazushige Kaneko, it contains many representative katazome (stencil-dyed) works. From his celebrated letter designs to folding screens, hanging scrolls, calendars and book design, it fully conveys Serizawa's outstanding skill in elevating traditional Japanese dyeing techniques into a contemporary visual language. Through this collection, readers can glimpse the practice of "the beauty of use" at the core of the Mingei movement and explore in depth Serizawa's craft world, full of vivid colour, poetry and the breath of everyday life.
