This book was published in connection with the exhibition "Toyo Ito: The New "Real" in Architecture" held at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery. Through the ideas and works of Toyo Ito, one of Japan's leading architects, it reconsiders the relationship between the "real" and the "virtual" in contemporary architecture and introduces his innovative methods of creating light, transparent architecture of organic form. It also contains his insights into the "simulated city," the realisation of architectural forms making full use of advanced technology, and the models, drawings, videos and textual materials used in the exhibition, exploring the formation of an architectural philosophy that emphasises "communication" and "experience."
