A photography book containing photographs that Yoshitomo Nara, a painter of worldwide renown, has continued to take alongside his art practice. It carefully selects and arranges some 300 photographs taken from 1983 to 2003, unbound by place or time.
In addition to photographs offering glimpses of his working environment, such as his studios in Japan and Germany, it includes photographs taken in Afghanistan and scenes of life in Tokyo, a book in which to enjoy Nara's world from many angles.
Although Nara had long been encouraged to publish a photography book, organising his past photographs took time. Because he had taken them without any thought of publication, negatives of old photographs had been lost and some prints were unsuitable for printing, and he has said that putting the book together was a struggle. In the end it was composed of photographs from 1983 to 2003, and he says he feels that even casually taken photographs capture his state of mind at the time (Yoshitomo Nara).
